Thanks for your purchase of the DM/PM L7. These installation instructions will work for any DM or PM marker.

 DM/PM Installation and Set-Up Video

If you dont have a fast enough connection or computer here are the installation instructions writen out. Throughout this page we are going to be referring to a few different parts. I am going to use the names given in the Dye user manuals. The picture below spells out the names Ill be using for each part.

3. With a paper towel, clean out the bolt cylinder housing of any old grease/dirt/debris. Inspect your cylinder inner and outer orings for wear, and replace them as needed. Apply a nice layer of grease to your inner front cylinder oring, and the entire inner cylinder body. This is a 017 oring, it may not be a bad idea to replace this oring.

Insert the correct sized plug into your Rear Cap.

New Step - We have had some trouble getting all the DM solenoids to operate at what the bolt naturally wants to operate at with no spacers...90 psi. That’s right, with the DM4,5,6,7,8 or bolt shoots 300 FPS at 90psi. We have found that it too low for a few of the DMs solenoids to operate at. At this pressure they would half cycle. So we have introduced spacers to get the pressure all the way up to 125ish. If you have picked up one of our bolts and you are trying to install it on a DM4,5,6,7, or 8, you may need/want to use our Top Hat Mod Spacer Kits. This kit will help DM's shoot more consitant at the lower pressures. We are currently including the spacer kit with all L7 Bolt Systems, however if you got one without one they are available seperatly.

The Spacer Kit will make the marker operate a higher operating pressure. This higher pressure can allow for lower dwell settings. Lowering your dwell does lead to more shots per tank. The lines in the spacer kit allows you to pick how much room you want to take up in the firing chamber. The more spacers you use...the higher your operating pressure will be. No worries though, even with full spacers the operating pressure is only about 125 PSI. This is still super low pressure for a paintball marker to operate at.

Lightly grease the bolts assembly outer orings, and gently push the entire bolt back into the rear of the marker. Be sure that all the bolt sleeve parts are tightly screwed together.

Screw it in as normal.

As you do this only use the TIP of the allen wrench. If you stuff the wrench in the back cap, you'll push the plug forward. This may cause you to plug up the air supply. This can cause the gun to act like it has nasty shoot down.

Again, use just the tip of the allen wrench with tightening up your back cap.

Dwell and Pressure Set Up

WARNING : To complete the rest of the set up it is crucial that you complete the following steps. Read and understand everything that is said here before you begin. If you are still confused after reading it several times, either consult your local pro shop or email todd@techtpaintball.com

Whats new that you need to understand about the L7 bolt.....

The big thing to understand is that the LPR (Low Pressure Regulator) only controls the amount of pressure pushing the bolt backwards in the breech. Not forward like the stock bolt. If at anytime your bolt is hanging forward into the breech when the gun is at rest, turn LPR up until the bolt moves back into the proper position.

Dwell

The easiest way to set up your new bolt is by starting your dwell at 18...or at whatever your old bolt was running at. We are going to start the dwell high and then adjust it down as we go.

1. So step one is to set your dwell to 18. If you are not sure how to set your dwell consult your owners manual. Most are available online if you don't have your's anymore. If you are using an after market board use the same dwell you have been using with your old bolt.

2. Also, be sure to turn your ABS (Anti Bolt Stick) OFF. Consult the markers owner manual if you are not sure how to turn it off. This is pretty crucial.

3. Now turn your Low Pressure Regulator (LP Reg or LPR) all the way down. You do this by turning the LP Reg all the way CLOCKWISE (IN). Now, turn it back out (COUNTER CLOCKWISE) by 6 turns. This should be enough to get the bolt to stay back in most guns.

*** On some markers the Low Pressure Regulator is in the rear below the bolt.

Lower the pressure coming from your HIGH PRESSURE Regulator (HP Reg) down to zero. If you are using the stock Dye reg, you down this by turning the screw at the bottom of the reg CLOCKWISE (IN) as far as you can. Other regs adjust differently, so make sure you know what way you are going.

If you are not sure, you could remove the reg from the gun while leaving it connected to the ASA, and gently apply air to the reg. Holding it tightly, adjust the reg until no air is coming from the reg. This can help let you figure out which way to turn in order to go down in pressure.

At this point just understand that we are going to start with a high dwell and then work lower. As we lower our dwell we will gain air efficiency, but once too low ....we'll loose consistency. We are trying to find that perfect balance between the two attributes, and it take alittle time and patience.

Pressures

4. READ and UNDERSTAND ALL OF THIS BEFORE YOU AIR UP THE MARKER.

With NO PAINT ON THE GUN - Turn the marker on, the eyes off, and air up the marker in that order.

With the marker in one hand and an allen key in the other, slowly turn up the pressure from your main HP Reg by turning it COUNTERCLOCKWISE on the Dye Hyper Regs. (Different regs adjust differently)

So thats, dry fire the marker at the same time you are SLOWLY turning up the HP reg.

As you gradually increase the pressure coming from the HP Reg, the marker will start to shoot or the bolt will just stay forward and spew air out the face of the bolt. If the bolt is spewing air, you need to give the LP Reg another full turn out or as many as it takes to get the bolt to stop leaking down the face of the bolt.(counterclockwise turn increase the LPR).

The bolt will only leak if the bolt does not having enough pressure pushing the bolt backwards. With our bolt the LPR only controls how much pressure pushes the bolt backwards. With the stock bolt players need to be concerned with how high their LPR is set to. This is because the LPR controls how much pressure moves the bolt forward. The more pressure, the harder it is on paint. This is not true with our bolt. The input pressure is the only thing pushing the bolt forward. This is also why you will notice that our bolt takes smaller reg adjustments to fine tune the velocity. If when you air the marker up the bolt is not leaking, good. Look into the breech and see is the bolt is all the way back in the breech. If after you pull the trigger the bolt hangs into the breech...up the LPR gradually and continue to pull the trigger as you increase the LPR. Stop increasing the LPR once the bolt fully retracts after each trigger pull.

Now go chrono the marker at the field, and hand feed paint to get the marker to shoot 300 fps or whatever you shoot at your field. You may find that you may need to increase or decrease the HP reg to get the desired FPS. As you make adjustments to the HP reg for the desired FPS, check the status of the bolt tip with each adjustment. Make further increases to the LP Reg as needed to keep the bolt tip back.

IMPORTANT

Once you get it shooting 300fps and the marker looks and feels like its performing well, put a hopper on the marker and test fire a stream of paint. If all is good.....go play a game with this setup.

If the consistency is good during the game (accuracy), after the game, lower their dwell by one flash. Then go play another game.... see if the change in dwell noticeably negatively affected the consistency (accuracy). If not, lower the dwell again by 1 after that game. Continue to lower and test until you notice a loss of consistency at low and high rates of fire. Once you notice a decrease in consistency, you need to increase your dwell back up to regain the consistency. I would go up one to two flashes in dwell just to be safe.

If for some chance you get the drop off at high rates of fire, try increasing your dwell by 1 after each gome until it goes away. Keep in mind if the problem wont go away easily you may have a dead or dieing battery and you may need to lube and clean your bolt. I'd go in adjustments of 1 with the dwell until high firing rate drop off us gone.

NOTE:

I have found that PM markers typically perfer a dwell between 3-10 flashes, and DMs need alittle higher....between 12-15 flashes. I know it sucks a little for DM owners....it seems that they may have used a slower solenoid on the DMs....which I think is odd seeing as they DMs cost more than the PMs.

All the guns and boards are little different, so no two set-ups are going to be exactly the same. The best setup is just a balance between your dwell, LP Reg, and HP Reg.

Common problem I see : Problem : Bolt fires every other shot. Fix = Turn up your LPR until the bolt stays back after each shot. This can also be a sign that you need a spacer kit, or perhaps even up your dwell by 1 or 2. If none of this helps, let me know. Email me at: todd@techtpaintball
