Tools:
- 1/8th Allen Wrench
- Paintball Gun Grease
1. To install the bolt you will need to tear down the gun
as normal to remove your old bolt.
2. Remove your old bolt and old bolt
stop from the firing can.
Recent Update:
We recently have made a change to the "back plug" of the L7 bolt. The newer style of back plug does not have a screw that tightens down the back plug. We found that too many people would over tighten the back plug and break it. So we tightened up the orings and removed the screw from the design. This new design make's installing the plug very simple. You just push it into the back of the can.
If you have the older style of plug we ask that you contact us and we will send you the newer style for free. Please send requests for a new plug to support@techtpaintball.com
We do require that old plugs be returned to us, but we will send you the envelope for returned shipping.
Overview
The
L7 installs into all Ions or similar markers pretty
much the same way. The back plug seals back of the firing
can and you replace your current bolt stop and bolt
head with our L7 parts. The back plug is needed on the
newer bolt out back bodies that Smart Parts has released
as well.
This
set of instructions is for the first generation Ion
type markers.
Original
Ions, Sp-8, Epiphany (newer
markers see instructions below)
1. Look at your back plug. If it is version 1, loosen, but do not remove the screw
on the Back Plug so that the oring is not compressed. We would perfer that you contact us for the plug update, but for the mean time you can use the version 1 plug as long as it is not damaged or damaged during installation.
2. Apply a very small amount of grease
to the o-ring closest to the front of the back plug. Apply no grease to the oring located furthest from the front.
3. From the front of the firing can
insert the Back Plug into your firing can.
The plug should slide easily down into the back tube
portion of the firing can. Push the back plug into the
tube as far as it will go.
Version 1 plug installation
6. If youPlace a wide flat head screwdriver
down into the slot in the front of the back plug. Now
place a 1/8th allen wrench into the screw on the back
of the bolt plug, from the outside of the can. Holding
the screwdriver in one hand, and the allen wrench in
the other, tighten up the back screw. Do not
over tighten. The screw only has to be slightly
snug. If you attempt to make it crazy tight you will
break the plug slot. Breaking the back plug can be dangerous.
If you feel that your back plug is broken or may have
cracked please contact us for a replacement plug immediately.
Do not attempt to play with a cracked or broken plug.
If broken, the plug could cause injury or death. AGAIN....
do NOT go crazy.... snug will work, tough guy.
7. Apply lube to the inner and outer
bolt stop orings. A nice thin layer will do. See picture
above.
8. Place the bolt stop into the firing
can with the larger concaved face pointing towards the
back of the firing can.
9. Lube up the bolt head. Apply a nice
coating of grease to the entire outer surface of the
bolt head, including the tail that comes in contact
with the bolt stop.
10. Place the bolt head down into the
bolt stop.
11. Rebuild your marker as usual.
This
set of instructions is for the newest generation Ion
type markers.

Overview
Basically
the same as installing it on the older version markers,
but in the newer ones you do not need to tighten the
back plug....because you can't get to it.
3. From the front of the firing can
insert the back plug into your firing can/back cap.
The plug should slide easily down into the back tube
portion of the back cap. Push the back plug into the
tube as far as it will go.
7. Apply lube to the inner and outer
bolt stop orings. A nice thin layer will do. See picture
above.
8. Place the bolt stop onto the front of the back cap. With the XE version of the bolt stop the direction does not matter.
9. Lube up the bolt head. Apply a nice
coating of grease to the entire outer surface of the
bolt head, including the tail that comes in contact
with the bolt stop.
10. Place the bolt head down into the
bolt stop.
11. Rebuild your marker as usual.
Dwell
Set-up for MAX SPEED AND EFFICIENCY. For max speed and air efficiency you must fine-tune
your dwell setting. This is done quite easily, however
if you are unsure how to do this, go to your local pro
shop or check out our Ion
101 DVD.
BE SURE TO HAVE A FRESH, FRESH, FRESH DURACELL OR ENERGIZER
LITHIUM ION BATTERY. THEY ARE THE BEST. DO NOT USE A
CHEAPO/OLD BATTERY OR YOUR RESULTS WILL BE OFF.
There
are two ways of setting up your marker. The one that
I am going to talk to you about first is the slower
less frustrating way of maximizing your bolt, but it
makes for an easy set up. The second method
is great too, but it can be frustrating....its up to
you.
The
EASY Set-Up
1. With
the new bolt and QEV installed start your dwell out
at like 30. Different boards may vary in settings. Many
people would call this a dwell of 30. Set your input
pressure so that you are shooting the needed velocity.
2. Now go play a game. I know that your dwell is probably
way too high, but that's ok, I want you to see how well
the bolt can shoot with a higher dwell. While playing
see if you notice shoot down at high rates of fire or
inconsistent shot velocity. If not....you're good to
lower your dwell.
After a game or two of good shooting try lowering your
dwell by 5 flashes, and then go play a couple more games.
Back on the field, if you don't notice a negative difference
in how the gun was shooting, go back in and lower the
dwell by another 5 flashes.
The
idea is to try to achieve the lowest possible dwell
and also have the highest level of consistency and accuracy.
There is no magic number here, you just have to do some
trials at different settings.
4. Once you make an adjustment and notice that the marker
is not shooting as well as it was at previous settings
you need to up your dwell by some number. I typically
will up the dwell back to the last good setting you
were at and then start going down in increments of 1
flash instead of 5. After each game that the marker
is shooting well, lower your dwell by one. This will
allow you to zero in on that perfect number. Once you
find that exactly number where your marker performance
begins to drop off or shoot poorly, up the dwell by
about 1-3 flashes. This will give you great air efficiency
and great consistency.
If this method didn't work so well....try this one.
The Low to High Set-Up Method
1a. With a stock dwell setting (smart
parts boards = 52), I like to first re-chronograph the
marker to the desired FPS. This allows you to find the
lowest / correct pressure that your marker wants to
operate at with your new bolt.
1.Now
by lower your dwell all the way to the bottom (lowest/fastest)
setting.
2. With a barrel bag in place, air
on the gun, and no paint loaded...start trying to dry
fire the gun with the eyes off. Most likely the gun
won’t shoot.
3. Now increase the dwell 1 flash at
a time until you can get the gun to shoot when you pull
the trigger.
4. Now that the gun is firing, hand
load 10 paintballs and see what you are chrono graphing
at. It’s probably going to be pretty low. If you
try to dry fire the gun quickly, you will probably hear
that the blast of air coming out is erratic sounding.
5. Continue to shoot 10 balls over
the chrono and adjust your dwell up by one flash after
every 10 balls you shoot. What you are doing is finding
the absolute minimum dwell setting you need in order
to chrono at the right velocity. Once you find that
setting that results in 280-300fps it’s always
good to increase it by 2-3 flashes so that at high rates
of fire you don't get shoot down. **If you just cant
seem to get your velocity high enough, you may need
to up your pressure 10-20 psi and start over.
** NOTE: The lower you set your dwell
the more gas efficient the gun will be, but it will
also be more inconsistent. The higher it is, the more
gas it will use, but you will see better accuracy and
consistency. It’s up to you to find the balance
that you like most.
Please don't ask what the best settings are. Each gun
is a little different, so there are no settings that
are perfect of every gun. If you follow the above instructions
you will find your guns perfect setting.

Advise: Grease your marker and change your
battery often. This will increase your guns accuracy
and overall performance. I suggest greasing the bolt
every 5000 to 10,000 shots. We've gone 50,000 shots
with out greasing the bolt. It still worked fine, but
for good performance and long oring life.....grease
it after 2-5 days of play.
For
best results, use our bolts with a Quick Exhaust Valve (QEV).
If you don't, you will not be able to lower your dwell
as much. We prefer the ones made by Planet Eclipse as
they seem to have the best flow rate of any QEV.
Lastly...go shoot some people.

or set their marker up even more, please email me at
